Squidgy is in its growth-era, and as the resident newbie, I wanted to share my one-month experience of starting Squidgy, a new role and adjusting to a new team. I joined a little over a month ago, as part of the growing Paid Media team, as Paid Media Manager, working alongside Sam and Amy!

As a Paid Media Manager, I am responsible for the running and overall management of client digital campaigns, spanning Paid Social and Paid Search. My background is primarily in Paid Social, so I’ve been able to hit the ground running in that department and with the support of my colleagues, I’ve been able to get stuck into the Google side pretty quickly. This was an area I was most nervous about, so I spent a lot of time before starting reading up and compiling a mile long list of questions (thank you Sam for your patience).

My first month has been a bit of a funny one, because I’m in the process of moving back to Newcastle from Glasgow, so I have spent some of my time working remotely while I sort out the logistics of moving 162 miles. Nevertheless, the welcome I have received from the team has been warm and encouraging! Early on, I had the chance to attend the Squidgy networking event; Squidgy Side Up at The Alchemist, which was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with old colleagues and clients over coffee and bacon sandwiches.

One thing I immediately noticed is how genuine the socialising feels, no forced-fun here!

A great example of this was the team’s approach to celebrating the festive season. Instead of a traditional Christmas party, we spent the day in Edinburgh, with the freedom to do whatever we fancied, hit the shops, the Christmas markets or local pubs (we of course did all three).

What sold me on Squidgy?

I had been aware of Squidgy and Andy’s work for a while, quietly following and liking from afar on LinkedIn. Andy and I later connected over a coffee and discussed my experience and where Squidgy were. From that initial meeting I knew I wanted to be involved, whether that was this year or later down the road.

I was at a point in my career where I knew I wanted to develop skills outside of my Paid Social remit, by exploring new facets of the industry, like Google Ads. Squidgy’s team structure would allow me to deepen that knowledge while working across multiple channels, creating effective strategies in diverse contexts. But perhaps most importantly, though, I’m thrilled to be part of a team again, after spending the last few years as a one-person department.

This is a team that values collaboration and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of it. As I settle further into my role, I’m excited to continue growing as a digital marketer and contributing to Squidgy’s journey during this exciting growth phase. If my first month is any indication, I know this will be a rewarding chapter. Here’s to the months ahead!
